Summary
In the present study 15 social workers who had provided consultations for epilepsy patients were interviewed and the results were analyzed by the modified grounded theory approach. The results revealed 41 concepts in eight categories and ten subcategories clarifying an "interactive empowerment process" between social workers and clients in epilepsy consultation. This "interactive empowerment process" consisted of two processes. In one process powerless clients with latent needs learn to express their needs and proactively choose how they want to live. In the other process social workers are empowered as clients change and they reaffirm their original identity as social workers and support clients to pursue their own of living.
