This is a study belonging to the project for the close reading of the Pansophia, the third part of the 17th century Czech thinker Johannes Amos Comenius's major work in his later years, entitled De rerum humanarum emandatione concultatio catholica. In this paper, in order to examine how Comenius considered universality, the author has examined how the word universalis and its related words such as pan-, catholicus, generalis, publicus, and communis are used in Pansophia. Comenius, who placed importance on a dimension that transcends particularity and contingency, used universalis frequently. This reflects his Neoplatonic worldview and Christian faith. Along with the theoretical and religious aspects, it is necessary to pay attention to Comenius's intention. He considered the universal dimension essential to cope with the religious, political, and intellectual discord in 17th century Europe and to revive the harmony in the world. Pansophia, universal wisdom, may contains an implication that wisdom is to be able to see the universality among the things in the world seemingly scattered purposelessly.
